A long, long time ago, I mentioned to Daniel that I would totally marry him. All he would have to do is buy me Johnny Cash’s Live at Folsom Prison album on vinyl, and we’d call it a deal.
So, he gave me the album. And a ring. And I’m going to marry that guy in my backyard in September, because my parents got married in September. And because I worked really goddamn hard to buy and keep this house, and now it’s going to be our house. And because we spend our free time in this space, tilling up garden beds and burning fires in a fire pit that somebody dug in the backyard long before I ever considered making a life in East Nashville. So, by my calculation, the time is now, and getting married in my backyard is the most sentimental thing I can do.
I’m a very sentimental person.
I am not scared or nervous, just really excited. I kind of wish we could go get married now and then go on a nice, long vacation, but I think the wedding is the right thing to do.
